UX/UI Lead

We are recruiting for a PUBLIC portfolio business, Microtest, which is building the future of Primary Care Electronic Health Record software.

About The Role

We are currently working on modernising our core GP clinical software which is already in production in the NHS. This is a UX/UI lead role, reporting directly to the Head of Product, working closely with product managers, engineers, members of senior management, and end users on a greenfield front end to build a user-centred, design focused, and best-in-class solution over the next 12-18 months and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be building the future of healthcare. The product we’re developing sits at the heart of the NHS infrastructure and UK healthcare data. We envisage a solution that can support the NHS and PHE in making data-driven decisions, assist healthcare workers in providing safe and informed person-centered care, and empower patients to better engage with their own care. You will be responsible for:

  • Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps
  • Validating design decisions through user research, prototyping, analytics etc.
  • Translating requirements into wireframes, mock-ups, UI specifications, and prototypes
  • Working with product managers and engineers at all stages of the product development cycle on briefs, scoping and roadmapping exercises. This includes participating in planning and estimation sessions where you need to clearly articulate the reasoning behind your ideas and designs
Key Skills

  • Strong UX research and development skills (persona development, feature mapping, cognitive load assessments)
  • Knowledge sharing ability (communicating the thought behind your designs to other stakeholders such as Product/Development and the wider business)
  • High levels of empathy - a desire to understand the various needs of our existing and future users
  • Experience conducting user research for a software product
  • Knowledge of design software (e.g. Sketch/Illustrator/Photoshop/UI and Mockup Kits/Wireframing tools) and workflow management tools (e.g. JIRA/Confluence/Github)
  • Experience working on mobile and responsive applications
  • Understanding of front-end development
  • Ability or desire to share your designs and ideas with others (mentoring, public speaking)
  • Experience operating in a cross functional team
  • A keen interest in health technology, medicine, and the wider healthcare sector

    When PUBLIC sees a problem in the public sector which is not being solved by existing offerings, the PUBLIC venture build team steps in to build out solutions. Previous projects have tackled problems in social finance, next-generation border control, and offender management.

Salary range £35,000 — 60,000
